Archer City Middle School Student Council
It is an exciting
time for the 5th and 6th grade students of Archer City Middle
School. Student Council has once again become an active part of our
campus.
A lesson on student council and leadership qualities was presented and discussed with the students. These qualities include having a servant’s heart, being a voice for others, and having a vision for their class, their campus and their community. Students seriously considered this role and decided if they would like to run for office. The 5th and 6th grade English teachers correlated a writing lesson with our lesson on student council and leadership. The students were required to write a persuasive essay about why they or someone else should be an elected student council member. Nineteen 5th graders and sixteen 6th graders decided to pursue this responsibility. They prepared, practiced, and presented their speeches to their peers. Through nerves of steel or shaky voices, each student communicated a desire to help and to work with and for others.
Deciding who to vote for was a difficult task. However, the student body took this responsibility seriously and with notes in hand, voted for 5 students they believed would represent them well. On Friday, October 23rd the fifth graders elected were Michael Aulds, Maeley Herring, Lexy Hughes, Cole Richardson, and William Warren. The sixth graders elected were Sarah Graves, Haley Kelley, Morgan Knobloch, Madison Lucido, and Taylor Sims.
The student council has already begun working on several projects. Please check back within a couple of weeks to learn more about their ideas.
