HOW MANY BOOKS CAN I CHECK OUT?
Elementary students are allowed two AR books and one regular book; extra books can be checked out for special projects or UIL. Middle school students are encouraged to have two AR books and are allowed to check out other books for pleasure or research. High school students can check out as many as ten if needed for research.
HOW LONG CAN I KEEP MY BOOKS?
Books are kept for two weeks and can be rechecked for another two- week period.
WILL I HAVE A FINE IF MY BOOKS ARE LATE?
We give you a two- week grace period if your books are late; then, it is five cents a day with weekends and holidays not charged. Arrangements can be made with students with financial hardships to work in the library to pay off fines.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I PAY FOR A BOOK AND LATER FIND IT? WILL I GET MY MONEY BACK?
We keep “lost book money” for about a month without purchasing a replacement. That allows time for a book to be found and return payment to students. Finding the book is much better than charging students for lost books because some books cannot be replaced. Many books are out of print or the price has skyrocketed since the original purchase of the book. We also have to process the new book, which may take thirty minutes to an hour to get it shelf-ready. Many libraries charge an additional fee for processing replacement books. The answer to the question: no, if we have bought a replacement book.
WHY CAN’T I CHECK OUT REFERENCE BOOKS?
First, reference materials are very expensive; some volumes may cost over one hundred dollars each. Often teachers assign research for the whole class; if one student checks out the main reference source(s), several students will do without resources. Also, many references are oversized and very heavy; dropping a heavy book on the spine can easily break the book. Keeping these materials in the library offers some protection from damage.
WHY DOES MY PICTURE SHOW UP ON THE CHECKOUT SCREEN IN THE LIBRARY?
It is visual help when checking out a book by making sure that we have matched the patron number with the student. Pictures in our library system also help us to learn the students' names.
