Students Advance: Band Crowns Beau, Sweetheart

The high school band performed its annual Christmas concert on Dec.5 in the high school auditorium.  On that night, the seniors of the band were recognized along with the naming of the Band Sweetheart and Beau.  The nominees for Band Sweetheart were seniors Breanna Biter and Sarah Snow.  The nominees for Band Beau were Tanner Victory, Hayden Frank, Ben Henderson, Rick Houghton, Payton Malone, Bobby Gibson, and Aaron Villanueva.  The winners were Sarah Snow and Payton Malone.  The following day, due to interfering schedules, the sixth grade and junior high school bands performed their concert in the auditorium as well.  “I enjoy the tradition of the concert,” senior Bobby Gibson said.  “It’s fun learning Christmas music.  Archer is also very supportive of the band and everything we do.”  I November band members tried out for All-District Band, and on Dec. 3 members tried out for All-Region Band.  Senior Payton Malone earned 12th chair in the All-Region band.  The results for district included Ben Henderson who placed fourth chair on trombone; Bobby Gibson, fifth chair on tuba; Payton Malone, eighth chair trumpet; Alicia Sakora, 16th chair on clarinet; and Aaron Villanueva, first alternate on barisax.  “I was very excited about performing in the All-District,” Henderson said.  “It gives kids like me, who have musical skills, to come together and do something we all love to do.”  The region band is a one day affair; those participating will spend an entire day practicing and preparing for the concert later that night.
