Hello, Parents! I hope this note finds you enjoying your summers with your children. My name is Josh Castles and I wanted to introduce myself as your new junior high/high school principal. I am super excited to be working with you and your children to ensure academic, extracurricular, and LIFE success!
A couple of reminders as we embark on a new school year:
-For High School Students: your child’s EOC (High School End of Course Tests) CSR’s should have been mailed earlier this summer.
-For Junior High Students: on the school’s website www.archercityisd.net , and or facebook page, STAAR CSR’s (your child’s scores) are available if you have not already seen them. If not, they will go home with your child on the first day of school, which is August 28th.
-The school day has added minutes to it now, per TEA. We will start at 7:55am and end at 3:30pm. Buses will run at 3:35pm. The cafeteria will be open at 7:25am for breakfast (free to all students), but the school will not be open until 7:40am, to ensure safe supervision.
-Cell Phones used inappropriately (Social Media/texting that effects the learning environment in any way) will be confiscated and a fine for returning to owner will be enforced.
-Dress Code and tardies will be enforced. Please help with your child’s compliance by making sure they are on time, dressed, and groomed according to our School Board adopted policy that can be found on the school’s website at www.archercityisd.net. Students are expected to adhere to all points of the Dress Code policy.
****Points of emphasis for dress code: No disruptive colors or hairstyles (mohawks, etc.), shorts must have a 4” inseam, tank top style shirts must have at least a 2-inch strap, no pajamas (unless pep rally themed), no CAPS, any visible tattoos must be covered.
--boys hair is to be kept above the eyes, earlobes are left uncovered, hair no longer than chin length in the back.
--leggings are to be worn only with a shirt that covers the entire bottom.
-Tardies and unexcused absences can add up. To prevent 9th periods, Saturday School, and Summer School, please be leary and ensure your child’s punctuality and attendance. If a child is here and on time, the chances that they will succeed greatly increase!
We wanted to be clear and communicate the expectations for what we anticipate to be an awesome school year. We wil see you and your children soon!

STAAR test scores are now available online. Paper reports will be mailed home as they become available.
To access your student's scores online, go to www.texasassessment.com.
Click Login to Student Portal
If you have your student's access code (from previous STAAR student reports), you may enter it and the student's date of birth and click Go to retrieve their scores.
If you do not have your student's access code, click on Lookup Access Code. You will be asked to enter the student's first name, PEIMS ID (most likely the student's social security number), and date of birth. Click Go.
The system will retrieve the access code. You may need to click Go one more time for it the retrieve the scores.
Passing scores will be marked with either a blue check mark labeled Meets Grade Level or a purple arrow labeled Approaches Grade Level.
Scores marked with a red exclamation mark labeled Did Not Meet Grade Level.
The paper score reports you will receive have been reformatted from previous years. Here are links to a couple of videos produced by Region 9 to explain the new format.
